Precision machinist rulers should be owned by every woodworker, as they will enhance the accuracy of their work. Traditionally, the most common graduation markings used by woodworkers are 4R, featuring 1/8ths and 1/16ths on one side and 1/32nds and 1/64ths on the reverse. However, the fact is that most woodworkers rarely use the finer 1/32nd and 1/64th markings, as they are hard to read, too precise for most tasks, and simply confusing, with measurements such as 51/64th or 19/32nds being difficult to comprehend.
To address this, Benchmark Tools has produced rulers that include the most commonly used 1/8th and 1/16th graduation marks on both sides. These rules are crafted from Japanese rust-resistant stainless steel that has been tempered, allowing them to flex if necessary and then snap back straight. The edges and ends have been carefully ground to be parallel, straight, smooth, and square. The graduations are produced through a photoengraving process, ensuring consistent and accurate markings with uniform line widths. Once etched, the graduations are white-filled for maximum readability.
The etching process ensures that the graduations will not wear off with prolonged use, unlike printed markings. The graduations conform to strict international EEC 1 Accuracy Standards, with a tolerance of +/- 0.2mm at 20°C for a 1000mm ruler. The quick-reading 1/8th and 1/16th markings on both sides of the rule provide easy-to-use measurements.
The rule is finished with a black chrome coating, which provides scratch and corrosion resistance while maximizing readability. The zero-glare, high-contrast, and easy-to-read finish enhances visibility in both low and bright light conditions.
